A disturbing case of animal cruelty has surfaced in Tharparkar district, where a young female camel was allegedly abducted and brutally tortured. The incident has triggered widespread anger and concern over animal welfare enforcement in rural areas.

The camel, a 13-year-old milking animal, was taken from Bangal Rind village in Chachro taluka following a reported dispute over grazing land. According to details, the animal was allegedly held captive for two days, during which she was beaten and deprived of food and water.

After being returned in a critical condition, veterinary examinations confirmed severe injuries. One of the camel’s eyes has suffered irreversible damage, while the other remains at serious risk due to swelling and trauma. Doctors also noted extreme weakness, malnutrition, and multiple wounds across her body.

Officials said the pattern of injuries indicates prolonged abuse and physical torture. A specialised veterinary team has been deployed in the area to provide continuous treatment, including antibiotics, pain management, intravenous fluids, and wound care under round-the-clock supervision.

A case has been registered against six suspects in connection with the incident. Police confirmed that two individuals have been arrested so far, while raids are ongoing to arrest the remaining accused. Investigators also noted that threats allegedly delayed the filing of the complaint.

Authorities have received a detailed medical report on the animal’s condition and directed immediate steps to ensure uninterrupted treatment. The case is being closely monitored at the provincial level.

Officials have termed the incident deeply disturbing and assured strict legal action against those responsible. The case has also renewed debate on strengthening animal protection laws and improving enforcement in rural communities.
