Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has presented the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2025–26 to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The survey was formally handed over during a meeting held in Islamabad.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met the finance minister at the Prime Minister’s Office. During the meeting, the finance minister submitted a copy of the economic survey to the prime minister. The document outlines the country’s economic performance and key indicators for the outgoing fiscal year.
Earlier, the prime minister addressed the National Economic Council. He said that consultations with the provinces regarding the upcoming federal budget have been ongoing for several weeks. He added that discussions were also held with provincial governments on creating additional fiscal space and improving resource generation.
The prime minister stressed the need for policies aimed at strengthening economic growth. He said that efforts should focus on increasing exports in order to accelerate GDP growth and improve overall economic stability.
Shehbaz Sharif said that the macroeconomic situation of the country has shown improvement. However, he noted that further efforts are required to sustain and strengthen these gains.
He said that all economic decisions have been taken through teamwork and in the best national interest. He acknowledged that the country’s economy has faced significant challenges in recent years.
Despite these challenges, the prime minister said that Pakistan has continued to follow the IMF programme. He added that he had spoken with the Managing Director of the IMF the previous night, who appreciated Pakistan’s sincere efforts and commitment to economic reforms.
