Canada reaffirms two-state solution

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has reiterated Canada’s support for a two-state solution as the basis for achieving lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians, describing it as a long-standing and firm commitment of Canadian foreign policy.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Carney said Canada had joined efforts with the United Kingdom, France and Saudi Arabia at the United Nations to bring together partner countries and discuss steps needed to create conditions for sustainable peace in the region.

He said the initiative focuses on building an environment where Israelis and Palestinians can live alongside each other in safety, dignity and mutual respect.

Carney stressed that Canada remains committed to diplomatic efforts aimed at addressing the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict through a political solution. He said international cooperation is essential to creating conditions that can support lasting peace and stability.

The Canadian prime minister’s remarks come as international efforts continue to address the conflict and explore a political framework that could provide security and self-determination for both Israelis and Palestinians.

Canada has historically supported a negotiated two-state solution, under which an independent Palestinian state would exist alongside Israel. Carney’s latest statement reaffirmed that position and highlighted Canada’s participation in multilateral diplomatic efforts at the United Nations.

He said the broader objective is to help establish conditions in which both peoples can live securely and with dignity, while supporting a sustainable path toward peace.
