Carrot Top legal battle escalates as judge issues jail warning

Comedian Carrot Top’s legal dispute with former opening act Brian Evans has intensified after a Florida judge warned both sides that violating court orders could lead to imprisonment.

The case revolves around an alleged sexually explicit recording involving Carrot Top, whose real name is Scott Thompson. His lawyers have accused Evans of attempting to pressure him for money by allegedly threatening to release the recording.

Evans has repeatedly rejected the allegations. He has denied ever threatening to release the recording in exchange for payment.

During a September 22 hearing in Florida, Carrot Top’s lawyers asked the court to stop Evans from submitting additional filings without obtaining permission first. They argued that some of his previous filings contained allegations they considered damaging and sensational, which were later reported by the media.

The judge declined to impose a blanket restriction on Evans’ future filings. However, the court ordered that upcoming documents in the case remain confidential and warned both parties to strictly follow its orders.

According to a transcript reported by TMZ, the judge said anyone who disobeyed the court could face incarceration. The court also indicated that its authority was not limited to imposing financial penalties.

Carrot Top’s legal team said the dispute had continued for more than two years. His lawyers have alleged that Evans threatened to make private information public unless he received money.

Evans has disputed the claims. He said he never demanded money in exchange for keeping a video private and maintained that the recording had already been deleted as part of an earlier settlement.

Evans also denied being responsible for a recent personal crisis involving Thompson. He said he was relieved that the comedian survived and rejected any suggestion that he was responsible for what happened.

The latest court hearing followed Thompson’s hospitalisation after an incident at his Las Vegas residence on September 18. His representative later said that the comedian was recovering, although it remains unclear when he will return to performing.

Meanwhile, Evans told the court that he had received death threats from individuals he believed were supporters of Carrot Top. He claimed that some people had threatened to harm him if they saw him in public.
