NEW YORK: China has sharply criticized the United States over its military strikes on Iran, warning that Washington has once again pushed the Middle East toward a “highly dangerous turning point” amid rising regional tensions.
Speaking during a United Nations meeting, China’s Permanent Representative to the UN said the latest US military actions against Iran risk further destabilizing an already volatile region and could undermine international peace and security.
The Chinese envoy stressed that military operations are not the solution to the region’s challenges and urged all parties to exercise restraint. He called on the United States to focus on reducing tensions rather than taking actions that could trigger new conflicts across the Middle East.
The remarks came after US representative Mike Waltz accused China of failing to take effective measures to prevent supplies from reaching Iran and Yemen. Washington has argued that stronger enforcement is needed to curb the flow of materials that could contribute to regional instability.
Rejecting the allegations, the Chinese ambassador described the accusations as “completely baseless.” He said China maintains strict oversight of its exports and fully enforces all relevant domestic and international regulations governing trade and sensitive goods.
According to the envoy, the immediate priority should be preventing further escalation through diplomacy instead of military confrontation. He emphasized that lasting peace in the Middle East can only be achieved through dialogue, negotiations and respect for international law.
China has consistently advocated political solutions to regional disputes and has repeatedly called for all sides to avoid actions that could intensify hostilities. Beijing maintains that diplomatic engagement remains the most effective path toward resolving conflicts involving Iran and other regional actors.
Analysts say the latest exchange at the United Nations highlights widening diplomatic differences between the world’s major powers over how to address the crisis involving Iran. While the United States continues to increase military and economic pressure on Tehran, China has renewed its call for negotiations and multilateral diplomacy.
The growing disagreement reflects broader geopolitical divisions over security in the Middle East, where continued military operations and competing strategic interests have heightened uncertainty.
As international attention remains focused on the region, diplomats warn that sustained dialogue and adherence to international law will be essential to preventing further escalation and preserving regional stability.
