Authorities are carrying out a controlled disposal of obsolete and unserviceable explosive material in the Regi area of Peshawar today, with officials warning residents that loud explosion sounds may be heard during the process.
According to an official public advisory issued on Wednesday, the operation involves the safe disposal of outdated ammunition and unexploded ordnance that is no longer usable.
KEY POINTS OF THE ALERT:
– Location: Regi area, on the outskirts of Peshawar
– Date: Wednesday, October 8, 2026
– Nature of Activity: Controlled disposal / destruction of obsolete explosives and unusable ammunition
– Expected Impact: Loud explosion sounds may be heard in Regi and surrounding areas
– Public Advisory: Citizens are requested not to panic and to avoid unnecessary concern
WHY THIS IS DONE – BACKGROUND:
Disposal of expired or recovered explosives is a routine part of security and public safety operations. Such materials include:
– Old, expired ammunition recovered from police warehouses
– Unexploded shells or ordnance found during operations or construction
– Seized or surrendered explosives that are unsafe for storage
To avoid accidental explosions, the Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) conducts controlled demolitions in designated open and safe areas away from dense population. Regi, which comprises largely open land on the northern outskirts of Peshawar, is frequently used for such controlled detonations due to its distance from residential zones.
Standard operating procedure includes cordoning off the disposal site, ensuring no civilian movement in the blast radius, and conducting the detonation under expert supervision.
Officials said the process is being carried out with all safety measures in place and there is no threat to public safety. The sounds heard are part of the controlled procedure and do not indicate any emergency or security incident.
Residents of Regi, University Town, Hayatabad and adjacent localities may hear the sounds.
The district administration has reiterated that the activity is pre-planned and urged citizens to remain calm, refrain from spreading unverified
