Pakistan and Iran have raised serious concerns over reported ceasefire violations in Lebanon, stressing the need for continued diplomatic engagement to stabilise the region.

This concern was shared during a telephone conversation between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday. Both sides reviewed recent regional developments and discussed the evolving situation in the Middle East.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the two ministers highlighted the importance of maintaining the ceasefire framework and expressed alarm over violations attributed to Israel in Lebanon. They agreed that such incidents could further destabilise an already fragile regional peace process.

During the call, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also congratulated the Iranian leadership on the signing of a recent US-Iran understanding described as the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.” He expressed hope that the next phase of negotiations would proceed smoothly and produce positive results.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic role and mediation efforts in facilitating regional dialogue. He also acknowledged Pakistan’s assistance in the safe return of Iranian nationals, including fishermen and crew members recently assisted through coordinated arrangements involving international partners.

Both ministers reaffirmed the importance of sustained communication and agreed to remain in close contact to support ongoing diplomatic efforts.

The conversation comes amid broader regional diplomatic activity following a ceasefire arrangement linked to the recent US-Iran understanding, which aims to reduce tensions and extend stability across conflict-affected areas, including Lebanon.
