French luxury fashion house Dior has designed the wedding outfits of global pop icon Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce, securing one of the biggest celebrity fashion moments of the year.
The couple wore custom Haute Couture creations designed by Dior’s Creative Director, Jonathan Anderson, during their private wedding ceremony held at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Dior confirmed that both outfits were handcrafted at the fashion house’s historic ateliers in Paris. The company said Anderson worked closely with Swift and Kelce throughout the design process to create the exclusive wedding looks.
No official photographs from the ceremony have been released, as the event was held under tight security with strict privacy measures. However, confirmation from Dior has generated widespread attention across the global fashion industry.
The commission is being seen as a major success for Jonathan Anderson, who became Dior’s creative director last year. Designing Taylor Swift’s wedding gown is regarded as one of the most prestigious assignments in the fashion world and further strengthens Anderson’s position at the French luxury brand.
Fashion experts believe the wedding has given Dior a significant advantage over rival luxury house Chanel in the race for high-profile celebrity endorsements. The event is expected to provide Dior with enormous international publicity because of Swift’s worldwide popularity and massive social media following.
Ahead of the wedding, speculation over the designer of Swift’s bridal gown dominated fashion circles. Several luxury labels, including Stella McCartney, Givenchy and Oscar de la Renta, were considered strong contenders. Dior, however, ultimately secured the opportunity to design the couple’s wedding attire.
Taylor Swift has long been known for mixing established luxury brands with independent designers. She wore Ralph Lauren for her engagement photographs, while her engagement ring was created by an independent jewellery designer. For her wedding, however, she selected Dior’s Haute Couture craftsmanship.
Jonathan Anderson has enjoyed a busy bridal season since taking over Dior. In recent weeks, he also designed couture wedding gowns for Chinese model Ming Xi and Brazilian influencer Elisa Zarzur, further expanding his influence in luxury fashion.
The announcement comes just before Anderson presents Dior’s latest Haute Couture collection in Paris, adding further attention to the brand at one of fashion’s biggest events.
