The visuals are great, as is the cinematography. The setting complements the theme of the film. The film revolves around family life and teenage relationships. Sophie falls in and out of relationships with boys, which is a natural course that life follows. There is heartbreak, tears, betrayal and love. The characters are believable and true to life. Elizabeth comes across as a doting mother who ignores her own health to be there for her daughter. The motif of sacrifice and compromise is evident through Elizabeth’s character as a mother. Sophi too is a caring daughter.

The primary concern of the film is the mother-daughter relationship. How will Sophie keep the balance between love and ambition? And how will she cope when the person she depends on most is facing a difficult reality of her own?

The film beautifully captures the truth between Sophi and Elizabeth. As Elizabeth spills the beans, Sophi cries her heart out but promises to create memories with Elizabeth that will help both to sustain the harsh and bitter reality of life.

Don’t say Goodluck is a moving tale of the test of love and resilience in the face of difficult circumstances. The title is like a paradox. Why Don’t say Goodluck? Because, in theatrical performance, saying good luck is considered bad luck. Also because Sophie is stepping onto the stage hoping everything will go well, while life outside the theatre is anything but certain.

To end, Don’t Say Good Luck is a film that is painful, yet not without joy. Despite the modest rating it has received of 6.8/10 at IMDB, it manages to keep the attention of the viewer till the very last end. The musical at the end depicts how full it is of life and empathy. A must-watch! Realistic, true and genuine, it wins the heart of the spectator. Hats off to the entire cast and crew for coming up with such a relatable film.
