Meta’s core social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram, have recovered following a widespread service disruption that affected thousands of users across the United States.
The disruption began at approximately 8:55 p.m. ET, with reports of problems dropping sharply by around 10:00 p.m. ET as services largely returned to normal.
According to outage-tracking data from Downdetector, problem reports peaked at more than 17,000 for Facebook and over 5,000 for Instagram.
While the outage was largely concentrated in the US, users in several other countries also reported minor disruptions and difficulties accessing the platforms.
Meta had not yet confirmed the cause of the glitch.
However, both platforms have since returned to normal operation.
