MIRANSHAH: Five security personnel were martyred after unidentified armed assailants attacked security forces in the Razmak Sub-Division of North Waziristan during an ongoing curfew, official sources said on Sunday.
According to official sources, the attack targeted a security forces patrol near a checkpoint in the Wiedon area of Dosali Tehsil. An exchange of fire subsequently took place between the attackers and security personnel.
Sources said the bodies of the martyred personnel were airlifted by helicopter to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Bannu.
Security forces launched an immediate retaliatory operation following the attack. However, no information was immediately available regarding casualties among the attackers.
After the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and initiated a search operation to trace and apprehend those involved in the attack.
North Waziristan has remained under a district-wide curfew since yesterday, with restrictions continuing for a second consecutive day.
