LONDON: The proposed one-off Test match between Pakistan and England in 2027 could see a change in venue, with Lord’s now emerging as a possible replacement for Old Trafford.
According to reports, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is reviewing adjustments to its 2027 home summer schedule. One of the key considerations is relocating the match originally planned for Old Trafford to the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
The development comes amid wider discussions about venue allocations for major fixtures. Reports suggest that Lord’s may lose its long-standing right to host the World Test Championship (WTC) final until 2031 due to concerns raised over pitch conditions by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
In such a scenario, The Oval has been identified as a leading contender to host future WTC finals. As compensation, Lord’s could be awarded additional high-profile fixtures, including the potential Pakistan-England one-off Test in 2027.
Under the current Future Tours Programme, Pakistan are scheduled to play the standalone Test in May 2027 at Old Trafford. However, if the proposed changes are approved, the match could be shifted to Lord’s.
Pakistan are also set to tour England for a three-match Test series earlier in 2026. That series is scheduled to begin on August 19 at Headingley, followed by the second Test at Lord’s on August 27, and the final Test at Edgbaston on September 9.
The possible reshuffling highlights ongoing discussions within English cricket over venue distribution for major international fixtures in the coming years.
