BADIN: Mir Shahid Ahmed Talpur, a prominent political figure of Badin district and the former chairman of Talhar Town Committee, has been exonerated of the charges of giving a fake cheque to his political rival. One Raja Waseem Khowaja, the local rice trader and a political rival of Mr Talpur, had registered an FIR against him at Talhar Police Station a couple of years back, claiming that a cheque of Rs 4.5 million given to him by Mir Shahid Ahmed Talpur, had bounced.

Mr Abdul Qudoos Memon, the District and Sessions Judge, Badin, on Friday after hearing the arguments of lawyers of both parties, acquitted Mir Shahid Ahmed Talpur.

Advocate Ahsan Bhurgari pleaded for the acquittal of Mir Shahid Ahmed Talpur and helped him win the legal battle against his political rivals.

A large number of the supporters of Mr Talpur gathered at different places after the verdict was announced in his favour and they congratulated him on winning the plea against his rivals.

Mir Noor Ahmed Talpur, the brother of Mir Shahid Ahmed Talpur and the Chairman of Save Badin Action Committee, talking to the reporters termed the verdict of the court as their moral victory against their rivals, who according to him, had devised different sinister plans to malgin their family members after they had supported a family of a slain peasant, Ms Nazia Machhi.

He recalled that a 30-year-old peasant woman named Nazia Machhi was shot and killed during an armed attack on her family near Talhar town. “The attack stemmed from a land occupation dispute. An influential local political figure’s son, (a PPP MPA) along with several accomplices, had allegedly opened fire on the family to seize land under their possession” he added. He thanked their supporters for standing with them in their difficult times, adding he warned his rivals to stop malicious drive against their family members, who, according to him, had never believed in the politics of revenge.
