Haroon Shahid reveals Kareena was first choice for Verna

Pakistani actor and singer Haroon Shahid has revealed that Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor was initially considered for the female lead in his debut film Verna before Mahira Khan joined the project.

Haroon Shahid discussed the casting during an appearance on Wasi Shah’s talk show Zabardast. He recalled that filmmaker Shoaib Mansoor had been in talks with Kareena Kapoor for the role before circumstances led to a change in the casting.

According to Haroon, Mansoor had developed professional connections in India following the popularity of his films Bol and Khuda Kay Liye. Kareena was reportedly expected to be part of Verna, but she eventually stepped away from the project while expecting her child.

Haroon said Mansoor then approached Mahira Khan for the role. He described the development as positive because both actresses were major stars in their respective industries.

The actor also praised Mahira for her contribution to Verna, describing her as humble, hardworking and supportive throughout the filming process.

Haroon added that, based on his experience of working with Mahira on multiple projects, he would personally choose her over Kareena. He also said he did not want to disclose every detail surrounding the original casting discussions.

Verna, directed by Shoaib Mansoor, marked Haroon Shahid’s debut on the big screen and featured Mahira Khan in the lead role. The film went on to become an important project in both actors’ careers.

Haroon Shahid has since appeared in several television and film projects and is now set to feature in Geo TV’s upcoming drama Uswa.
