Prince Harry and his wife Meghan have no plans to spend Christmas with the British royal family this year, according to a report published by Page Six.

A source told the US celebrity news outlet on Friday that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would not join King Charles III, Prince William and other members of the royal family at Sandringham, amid continuing tensions within the family.

“There is a hierarchy,” the source told Page Six. “And the King is the CEO, he’s the boss — what he says goes, so it’s better not to put themselves in any difficult position.”

The couple are considering spending the holidays at a cottage in Northamptonshire, where they are currently staying, or returning to California, according to the report. Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, is expected to join them.

The report comes amid conflicting accounts of whether Harry and Meghan intend to apologise to Prince William and his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales, in an effort to improve relations.

HELLO! royal editor Emily Nash rejected reports that the couple were planning to apologise and take steps towards reconciliation.

“The story was saying that they were going to apologise and they were going to do everything they could to reconcile with William and Catherine. Unfortunately, it’s just not true,” Nash said.

“There’s been a big denial of this story, and it was described to me as nonsense, and that has now been spun into them refusing to apologise,” she added. “I don’t think it’s quite that, but it does show just how bad the situation is.”

“This is essentially a story about no change,” Nash said.
