Hina Javed murder suspect confesses

A house servant arrested in the murder case of 45-year-old digital designer Hina Javed has allegedly confessed to the crime and provided investigators with details about the incident, police said on Thursday.

The development came as Rawalpindi Duty Judicial Magistrate Rana Shehbaz Khan granted police another three days of physical remand for the two arrested suspects — Hina’s husband, Faisal Asghar, and their servant, Zeeshan. The court directed investigators to complete the probe and submit the challan by August 28. The suspects will appear before the court again after the remand period ends.

Police said investigators had completed DNA testing and special polygraph examinations of both suspects. Authorities expect the test results within two to three weeks, which could provide further evidence in the case.

The investigation has also focused on Hina’s father-in-law, retired officer Asghar Fayyaz. Police said he had joined the investigation but had not been arrested so far.

The investigation officer told the court that one of the suspects appeared intelligent but was not fully cooperating with investigators. Despite the lack of complete cooperation, he said the team had continued to make progress.

During Thursday’s court proceedings, Hina’s husband allegedly acted as though he was mentally unwell. The court expressed displeasure over his conduct and instructed him to stand properly in the dock. Police said he allegedly continued the behaviour after leaving the courtroom.a

The police had initially requested a seven-day physical remand for both suspects, but the court granted a further three days.

Hina’s lawyer, former Lahore High Court judge and former attorney general Shah Khawar, told the court that all three suspects were allegedly involved in what he described as a heinous crime. He alleged that Hina’s husband killed her with the assistance of Zeeshan.

According to details presented during the proceedings, investigators believe Hina’s hands were tied behind her back, cloth was forced into her mouth and a wire was placed around her neck. Authorities later found her body hanging from a shower in the bathroom.

The autopsy report presented before the court indicated severe injuries, including complete fractures of the bones in her neck, along with multiple other injuries to her body.

Investigators have also sent the clothes Hina was wearing at the time of her death for forensic examination. Police are examining the clothing for possible fingerprints and other traces that could help establish what happened before her death.

The wire allegedly used around her neck, the cloth reportedly placed in her mouth and the rope used to restrain her hands have also been preserved as forensic evidence.

Shah Khawar told  that he was satisfied with the progress of the investigation. He said police were moving in the right direction and had handled the collection of technical and forensic evidence professionally.

Hina’s cousin and family spokesperson, Shehr Bano, also said the family was satisfied with the investigation so far. However, she stressed that the family wanted authorities to maintain complete transparency and ensure an impartial investigation to establish the facts of the case.
