Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has rejected claims that it attacked commercial vessels, saying the United States used the allegation as a pretext to strike Iranian military facilities and divert attention from what Tehran described as its own military setbacks.
In a statement, the IRGC said no ship attempted to violate Iran’s maritime restrictions or assist US forces during the recent confrontation. As a result, it insisted that Iranian forces did not target any civilian or commercial vessels.
The statement accused Washington of launching strikes against Iranian military bases under the false justification of protecting shipping in the region. According to the IRGC, the US sought to conceal its “failure and weakness” by escalating military operations against Iran.
Meanwhile, the Iranian military announced a new wave of drone attacks as part of the eighth phase of its ongoing Operation Saeqa. Iranian state media reported that explosive drones targeted the US-operated Al Azraq Air Base in Jordan, where American military assets are stationed.
According to the report, the drones struck positions believed to house US F-18 fighter jets, along with large military equipment hangars at the base. Iranian officials claimed this marked the second attack on the facility during the current phase of the operation.
The United States has not immediately responded to Iran’s claims, and independent sources have not verified the reported strike or the extent of any damage. Tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to rise as both sides exchange military actions and competing narratives over developments in the region.
