The 41-year-old rapper was scheduled to perform at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California, but the venue announced that the show had been cancelled.

“Following the tragic passing of a member of the touring crew in a trucking accident this morning, J. Cole’s show scheduled for tonight, August 27, at Golden 1 Center has been canceled,” a representative for the arena said in a Facebook post.

“Our thoughts are with the crew member’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement, also shared by Live Nation, added.

According to The Sacramento Bee, the California Highway Patrol said the crew member was driving a semi-truck that veered off the interstate and overturned.

The accident occurred shortly after 6:05 a.m. local time on Interstate 5 in Yolo County, northwest of Woodland.

The crew member died at the scene, authorities said. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to The Sacramento Bee.

The Yolo County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Jarlath Parkinson, 66, of South Carolina.

California Highway Patrol said the driver drifted onto the right shoulder and lost control while attempting to return to the roadway, causing the truck to overturn.

“It’s unknown at this time, may have been a distraction or fell asleep. Unfortunately, the solo occupant did not survive the crash,” Sgt. David Barker of the California Highway Patrol said in a statement, according to CBS News Sacramento.

Thursday’s concert was part of Cole’s “The Fall-Off World Tour,” which has more than 40 dates scheduled between August 29 and December 12. The tour is scheduled to conclude in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Fans who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded, while those who bought tickets through third-party resellers were advised to contact the sellers.

Cole has several other upcoming performances in California, including shows in Oakland on Saturday and Sunday, August 30.

He is also scheduled to perform at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on September 1 and at Intuit Dome in Inglewood on September 3.
