KARACHI: Authorities have finalized comprehensive security arrangements for the central Muharram processions scheduled for the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram in Karachi, with more than 7,500 police officers and personnel set to perform security duties across the city.

According to Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Azad Khan, extensive measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of mourners participating in Muharram events and processions. The security plan has been prepared in coordination with various law enforcement and civic agencies to maintain peace and order during the religious observances.

As part of the preparations, Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi and Additional IG Karachi Azad Khan conducted a detailed visit to Numaish Chowrangi, one of the key locations associated with Muharram processions. During the visit, the senior officials reviewed security and administrative arrangements and inspected the routes that will be used during the major gatherings.

The officials also met with subordinate officers and issued necessary instructions regarding crowd management, traffic control, emergency response measures and coordination among different departments. Authorities emphasized the importance of maintaining vigilance throughout the Muharram period to prevent any untoward incidents.

The security plan includes the deployment of police personnel at sensitive locations, procession routes, entry and exit points and major intersections across the city. Special monitoring teams, surveillance measures and rapid response units are also expected to remain on high alert during the three days of central processions.

Traffic management arrangements are being finalized alongside the security plan to minimize inconvenience for commuters while ensuring smooth movement of mourners. Citizens are expected to be informed in advance about alternative traffic routes and any temporary road closures linked to the processions.

Muharram is observed with great religious significance across Pakistan, and Karachi hosts some of the country’s largest processions and gatherings during the first ten days of the Islamic month. Given the scale of participation, authorities have stressed the need for strict security protocols and close coordination among all relevant institutions.

Officials expressed confidence that the extensive arrangements would help ensure the peaceful and orderly conduct of Muharram processions, allowing mourners to observe the occasion safely while maintaining law and order throughout the city.
