Karachi: Residents of Karachi enjoyed a refreshing change in weather as light drizzle and scattered rainfall were reported in several parts of the city late Sunday night. The showers brought a noticeable drop in temperature and provided much-needed relief from the prevailing hot and humid conditions.
Areas including Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, University Road and Sohrab Goth witnessed intermittent drizzle, while comparatively heavier rainfall was recorded in parts of Abul Hasan Isphani Road, Rashid Minhas Road and nearby localities. The rain transformed the atmosphere across the metropolis, with many residents stepping outdoors to enjoy the cooler weather.
The pleasant conditions followed days of intense heat and humidity that had affected daily life in the city. Social media users also shared photos and videos of cloudy skies and wet roads, expressing their appreciation for the unexpected weather change.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the weather pattern is being influenced by a seasonal low-pressure system over northern Baluchistan and adjoining areas. In addition, a westerly wave is affecting the upper parts of the country, while moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea continue to move into central and southern regions, contributing to changing weather conditions.
The PMD stated that although most parts of Pakistan are expected to remain hot and dry, some regions could experience rain, thunderstorms and dust storms due to the prevailing atmospheric system. Upper hilly areas are likely to remain partly cloudy, while isolated rain and thunderstorm activity may occur in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and surrounding mountainous regions.
The department also forecast dust storms and thunderstorms in parts of central Punjab, the Potohar region and southern Baluchistan, including districts such as Awaran, Panjgur, Khuzdar and Kech.
For Karachi residents, however, the late-night drizzle offered a brief but welcome escape from the summer heat. Weather experts say such showers can temporarily improve conditions by reducing temperatures and increasing freshness in the air, although humidity levels may remain elevated afterward.
As the city continues to experience fluctuating weather patterns, citizens are advised to stay updated with official forecasts and take necessary precautions during changing weather conditions. The recent drizzle has once again highlighted Karachi’s unpredictable climate and the relief that even light rainfall can bring to millions of residents.
