Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed has directed police officers across the province not to provide any assistance or facilitation for a political march, rally or procession heading towards Islamabad.

According to a directive issued by the provincial police chief, no police officer will facilitate a march, rally or procession travelling towards the federal capital. Officers have also been instructed to immediately inform the IGP if they receive any directions to provide such assistance.

The directive warned that disciplinary action would be taken against any police official found violating court orders in connection with the planned political activity.

The development comes as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced plans for a march towards Islamabad on September 27. The planned protest has prompted authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad to issue instructions concerning the use of official resources and public roads.

Earlier, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief secretary had also directed government officials and employees not to assist or facilitate any march, rally or procession. Government personnel were further barred from using official resources and public funds for such activities.

The instructions followed a ruling by the Islamabad High Court, which stated that neither a political party nor a provincial government had the right to block highways leading towards Islamabad.

The court’s decision has added to the restrictions being placed on the use of government machinery and public infrastructure in connection with political demonstrations.

The KP police leadership has now reiterated that its officers must comply with the court’s directions. Any official found providing assistance in violation of the orders could face departmental proceedings.

The planned PTI march is expected to remain a key political development in the coming days, with authorities preparing to ensure that public roads and government resources are not used in violation of court directives.
