The Lahore High Court has refused to immediately suspend the detention orders issued against Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi, sisters of PTI founder Imran Khan.
Justice Abher Gul Khan heard petitions challenging the detention of the two women. During the hearing, the court issued notices to the concerned parties and sought their responses on the petitions.
Advocates Mudassar Umar and Barrister Taimur appeared before the court on behalf of Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi. Farukh Lodhi represented the Punjab government.
The petitioners had requested the court to immediately suspend the notification ordering their detention. However, the court declined to grant interim relief at this stage and instead sought replies from the relevant authorities.
Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi were taken into custody in Lahore on September 21. The two sisters were subsequently detained for 30 days under the relevant legal provisions.
Their detention comes amid heightened political activity surrounding PTI and its founder, Imran Khan. The party has been organising protests and political activities while demanding the release of its founder.
