In a statement, Maryam Aurangzeb said the chief minister was referring specifically to the threat posed by the inter-provincial movement of terrorists and the security risks associated with it. She said Maryam Nawaz’s comments had been presented in a negative manner on social media creating an impression that did not reflect the context of her remarks.

According to Maryam Aurangzeb, the Punjab chief minister has always respected all provinces and the people belonging to different communities across the country. She criticized those allegedly attempting to exploit the remarks and said such elements wanted to create divisions among the people.

The minister further alleged that individuals seeking to create divisions could ultimately benefit terrorists and their facilitators. She emphasized the importance of maintaining national unity while dealing with security threats.

The controversy follows remarks made by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz a day earlier regarding the security situation in Punjab. She had said that the province faced a terrorism threat not from a neighboring country but from other provinces while stressing that her government would not compromise on law and order.

Maryam Nawaz said threats were emerging from areas along the provincial border. She said authorities had taken steps to strengthen joint check posts in order to address these threats and improve security arrangements.

The Punjab chief minister also highlighted plans for an intelligence hub describing it as an important center for coordination among security institutions. She said the establishment of the hub would introduce greater innovation and improve coordination between relevant agencies.

Maryam Aurangzeb’s latest statement appears aimed at clarifying the context of the chief minister’s comments and countering criticism circulating on social media.

The issue has generated discussion over Punjab’s security situation and the challenges posed by terrorism and the movement of militants across provincial boundaries.
