In a major development in Punjab’s accountability and land reform efforts, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has successfully reclaimed government land worth approximately 433 billion rupees from illegal occupants, marking one of the largest anti-encroachment operations in the province’s history.
During a media briefing, NAB Director General Mirza Farhan Baig revealed that authorities have retrieved 25,444 kanals of state-owned land from land grabbers as part of an extensive and ongoing crackdown against encroachments. He emphasized that operations are being carried out without discrimination to restore full state control over public assets and eliminate the influence of land mafias.
He further highlighted that from 2023 to 2026, the accountability drive has resulted in record recoveries amounting to 15.6 trillion rupees, reflecting what he described as a strong and effective enforcement of accountability mechanisms.
Punjab’s Senior Member Board of Revenue Nabeel Javed also briefed the media on ongoing governance reforms, stating that large-scale digitalization efforts have significantly improved transparency and efficiency in the revenue system. According to him, 2.35 crore registered documents and around 30 crore pages of land records have been successfully digitized, making public services more accessible and reducing opportunities for corruption.
Officials also noted that the Punjab State Assets Task Force is actively ensuring transparent management and utilization of government land. Citizens have been urged to actively report illegal possession cases through the designated complaint portal to support enforcement efforts.
In recognition of their efforts, both officials were reportedly commended by the Prime Minister for their performance and contributions to governance reforms and anti-corruption initiatives.
