Pakistan-China Institute Chairman Mushahid Hussain Syed has credited Field Marshal Asim Munir with facilitating a meeting of Pakistani, Turkish and Saudi leadership in Tehran describing the gathering as an important diplomatic development for the region.
Speaking on Geo News’ programme Capital Talk Mushahid Hussain and former foreign secretary Aizaz Chaudhry discussed the significance of the meeting and Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement with regional countries.
Mushahid Hussain said Munir’s repeated visits to Iran helped make the meeting possible. According to him the field marshal visited Iran six times following the Islamabad agreement paving the way for the gathering of the three countries’ leadership in Tehran.
He said Pakistan deserved recognition for helping bring the leaders together and described the meeting as a significant achievement for the country’s diplomacy. Mushahid Hussain also congratulated the Pakistani nation saying Pakistan had played an important role in making the engagement possible.
The meeting comes amid regional diplomatic efforts involving Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Iran. Such high-level contacts are significant as regional countries seek dialogue and closer coordination on issues affecting security and political stability.
During the same programme former foreign secretary Aizaz Chaudhry offered a cautionary assessment of the wider regional situation. He welcomed the decision by countries associated with the Mecca agreement to engage directly with Iran describing the outreach as a positive step.
However Chaudhry also warned that the diplomatic picture remained uncertain. He expressed concern that Israel could attempt a major attack against Iran highlighting the security risks that could complicate efforts to reduce tensions.
The comments by both speakers reflected the importance of continued diplomatic engagement while acknowledging the potential for further regional instability. Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue has drawn attention as regional powers pursue contacts aimed at addressing shared concerns.
