Musk predicts 1 billion humanoid robots within a decade

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has predicted a dramatic expansion in the use of humanoid robots, saying they could become a common part of everyday life within the next few years.

Speaking in an interview with Chinese media, Musk said people would increasingly use personal robots to assist with household responsibilities and care for children and elderly family members.

Musk said the future could see individuals controlling thousands of robots and digital agents at the same time. He predicted that the number of humanoid robots worldwide could reach around 1 billion within the next 10 years.

He further projected that the figure could rise to 10 billion within 15 years and eventually reach 100 billion within two decades. His projections highlight his expectations for rapid advances in robotics, artificial intelligence and automation.

According to Musk, humanoid robots could eventually perform a wide range of tasks that currently require human involvement. These could include helping educate children, assisting families with daily activities and providing care and companionship to elderly people.

He suggested that personal robots could become an important part of household life as the technology develops, potentially allowing people to delegate routine and time-consuming responsibilities to automated systems.

Musk also discussed China during the interview and encouraged people to visit the country whenever they have the opportunity. He said that those with limited time should at least visit Shanghai and Beijing, two of the country’s major cities.

His comments come as technology companies around the world continue to invest heavily in humanoid robotics, artificial intelligence and autonomous systems, with developers seeking to expand robots’ ability to perform tasks in homes, workplaces and other environments.
