Fuel relief: Action ordered against non-compliant petrol pumps

Islamabad: Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik has directed authorities to take action against petrol pumps that deny consumers the benefits of the government’s fuel relief scheme.

The minister chaired a meeting to review the implementation of the fuel relief scheme and measures to ensure the uninterrupted supply of petroleum products across the country.

Officials briefed the meeting that payments to more than 8,500 of the approximately 10,000 petrol pumps covered under the fuel relief scheme have been completed.

During the meeting, Ali Pervaiz Malik instructed relevant authorities to make advance arrangements to maintain a steady supply of fuel and prevent disruptions.

The petroleum minister said fuel transportation must continue even in the event of law and order challenges or road closures. He also ordered action against petrol pumps that prevent consumers from receiving the relief available under the scheme.

The meeting also discussed arrangements to maintain fuel supplies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Railway officials said special measures would be taken to ensure the smooth transportation of petroleum products to the province.

The minister also directed Pakistan State Oil (PSO) to maintain additional fuel stocks at its depots to deal with any potential disruption and ensure continued availability of petroleum products.

Officials stressed the need for close coordination among relevant departments to maintain supplies and ensure that the relief scheme reaches eligible consumers without unnecessary delays or interruptions.
