My father loved to travel. He visited many countries around the world and attended several Olympic Games because he enjoyed traveling.
However, the first time I went abroad with him was in August 2004.
At that time, I was living in Islamabad, Pakistan, with my father.
We used to do many things back then, as Islamabad was a quiet and sleepy city, and we often went on long drives. My father loved driving the car, and we both enjoyed it.
We also enjoyed going to Pizza Hut and listening to nice music.
I was just a child back then. As a matter of fact, I was only 10 years old and was about to turn 11, as I was born on 8 September 1993 in Lahore, Pakistan.
We used to visit various hotels, such as the Marriott and Serena, and ice cream places like Hot Spot, where I would have my favorite dessert—a large chocolate brownie vanilla ice cream. My father often took me there.
We also visited second-hand bookshops, where I used to buy short books to read. My father was a government officer, and we had a lot of fun together.
At the time, we were living in apartment buildings opposite the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, Pakistan.
We often went to Pizza Hut, listened to good music, and visited Rawal Lake, where we took pictures.
Then, in August 2004, my father, my stepmother, and I made plans to go to Athens, Greece, for the Olympic Games.
My father and I first traveled to Karachi, then spent some time in Muscat, Oman, before continuing to Bahrain and finally to Athens, Greece.
I was extremely excited to visit Greece for the Olympics.
When we arrived in Greece, we explored the city of Athens, the capital of the country. The city looked vibrant and exciting.
We checked into the Covo Doro Hotel and went to the beach, where we swam and spent time near Piraeus. The hotel was excellent, and a kind lady served us breakfast along with hot chocolate. We attended various Olympic events and also visited famous historical sites such as the Acropolis. Athens looked beautiful and impressive.
The beach was incredible, and we listened to nice music while enjoying the scenery.
We also took many photographs, and my father eventually became tired of spending money on disposable cameras because I wanted so many of them.
As I mentioned earlier, this was my first trip abroad with my father.
The nightlife was also incredible, and there were many excellent places to eat.
We spent our days exploring the city and enjoying the Olympic Games.
Later, we traveled to Thessaloniki, the second-largest city in Greece. It was also very beautiful. There was a famous tower there, along with lovely beaches. From Thessaloniki, we took a taxi to Istanbul, Turkey.
The landscape changed noticeably as we crossed the border.
We arrived in Istanbul late at night and checked into a hotel. Later, we visited the Bosphorus and met some unusual hippies. The nightlife was lively and enjoyable.
There were many tourists as well as beggars. However, I would choose Greece over Turkey any day because, in my opinion, Greece was better in every way I could think of.
We spent a few days in Istanbul before returning to Greece by taxi. The countryside along the journey was very beautiful, and I enjoyed it very much.
The city of Thessaloniki was wonderful. We met many people there, and the city has also been mentioned in various novels and historical works.
Afterward, we returned to Athens and continued to enjoy our stay.
The sea in the background was beautiful, the music was enjoyable, and the nightlife was fantastic.
The main attraction, of course, was the Olympic Games of August 2004, which were truly remarkable.
I took many photographs and visited historical sites. I also enjoyed the nightlife, dining at restaurants, and buying and collecting postcards, which was one of my favorite hobbies at the time.
The trip was amazing. The sea surrounding Athens added greatly to the beauty of the city, and every moment was enjoyable.
I would love to visit Greece again, even though it has been more than twenty years since I visited this amazing country and its beautiful capital, Athens.
The country comes alive at night, and the buildings and beaches add greatly to its beauty.
These Olympics were especially important because the Olympic Games originated in Greece. In addition, people from all over the world had gathered there, and the city was full of energy and excitement throughout the event.
