TEHRAN: Pakistan is intensifying diplomatic efforts to help sustain progress in Iran–US negotiations, as Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Tehran for high-level talks with Iranian officials.
During the visit on Saturday, Naqvi met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, with discussions focused on ongoing peace initiatives and regional diplomatic coordination. Iranian officials said the visit is part of Pakistan’s broader role in supporting dialogue between Washington and Tehran.
Naqvi is also expected to meet Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni during the trip, according to Iranian media reports.
The visit comes as Islamabad continues its mediation efforts in the Iran–US dialogue process. Pakistan has positioned itself as a facilitator of communication between the two sides, aiming to reduce regional tensions.
Earlier, officials said Pakistan’s role contributed to a landmark understanding between the United States and Iran, with both sides reportedly agreeing to a framework for regional peace discussions. The agreement is expected to move into further implementation talks.
However, scheduled follow-up negotiations in Switzerland were recently postponed. The Swiss Foreign Ministry confirmed the delay while stating it remains ready to host future discussions at the Bürgenstock facility.
The postponement followed changes in the US delegation’s travel plans, while Iranian officials said there was no immediate urgency for the meeting, citing recent digital signing of the initial agreement.
Despite the delay, all sides have reiterated their commitment to continuing diplomatic engagement in the coming days, with Switzerland maintaining its role as a neutral facilitator for future rounds of talks.
