No compromise on Sindh’s unity, Says Faryal Talpur

Speaking in the Sindh Assembly during a discussion on an adjournment motion opposing the creation of new administrative units and any division of Sindh, Talpur delivered an emotional speech and reaffirmed her commitment to the province.

“We stand with Sindh and will continue to stand with it,” Talpur said. She added that whether she had to resign, lose her assembly membership, or even sacrifice her life, there would be no compromise over the division of Sindh.

Talpur said Sindh belonged to its people, including Sindhis and everyone who had made the province their home. She emphasized that the people had collectively decided that there would be no compromise on the province’s unity.

“After Pakistan Khappay, our slogan is Sindh Khappay,” she said, referring to the PPP’s political slogan emphasizing the importance of Pakistan and Sindh.

Talpur also rejected the idea of leaving the country, saying that her family’s roots were deeply connected to Sindh. “We will not run abroad,” she said, adding that the graves of her elders were in Sindh and that she too wanted to be buried there after her death.

Recalling the sacrifices of her political family Talpur referred to Benazir Bhutto and said she did not want to face a situation in which she would be questioned for failing to defend Sindh’s unity.

She also highlighted the historical role of the Talpur family in defending Sindh. Referring to Mir Sher Muhammad Talpur of Mirpur whom she described as the “Lion of Sindh,” Talpur said he had fought for the province and never bowed his head.

She vowed that her generation would similarly defend the integrity of Sindh for future generations.

Talpur also defended Sindh’s local government system describing it as strong and effective while acknowledging that further improvements could be discussed. She contrasted it with Punjab saying that in her view the province lacked a comparable local government system.

Recalling her own experience during the Pervez Musharraf era, Talpur said she had served as a nazim and claimed that development work in areas including Benazirabad and Larkana had been carried out under the local government system.
