Pakistan has strongly condemned ballistic missile attacks carried out by Yemen’s Houthi rebels against Saudi Arabia.
Islamabad has reiterated its complete support for Saudi Arabia’s security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The issue was discussed during an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, with a focus on Yemen.
Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Usman Jadon, addressed the session and expressed concern over the attacks targeting Saudi territory.
In his remarks, Jadon said Pakistan strongly condemns the Houthi missile strikes and stands with Saudi Arabia in protecting its national security and sovereignty.
He reaffirmed that Pakistan supports the independence, unity and territorial integrity of Yemen.
The Pakistani envoy stressed that increasing tensions in the region should be addressed through dialogue, diplomacy and restraint instead of further escalation.
He said a lasting solution to the Yemen conflict can only be achieved through a comprehensive political process involving all sides.
The statement came after reports that Houthi forces had fired missiles toward Saudi Arabia’s southern areas. Saudi officials said the country’s air defence systems successfully intercepted and destroyed the incoming missiles before they could cause damage.
The Saudi-led coalition confirmed that the missile launches were detected and neutralised as part of ongoing efforts to protect the kingdom from security threats.
Earlier, Yemen’s Houthi group had accused Saudi Arabia of conducting airstrikes on Sanaa airport and warned of consequences following the alleged attacks.
