The United States has carried out another wave of airstrikes against Iranian military targets, focusing on facilities along Iran’s southern coastline.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the operation was completed late Monday night. The strikes were aimed at weakening Iran’s ability to threaten commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM said the five-hour mission ended at 10:15 p.m. ET on July 13. US forces targeted military positions in several areas, including Bushehr, Chabahar, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa and Bandar Abbas.
The US military said precision-guided weapons were used during the operation. The targets included Iranian coastal defense systems, missile sites, drone facilities and maritime capabilities.
CENTCOM stated that the strikes were part of efforts to reduce Iran’s capacity to conduct attacks against shipping routes in the region.
The command also said more than 50,000 US military personnel are currently stationed across the Middle East. It added that American forces remain prepared for further operations if required.
The latest strikes marked the third consecutive night of US attacks against Iran. The operation was carried out on the orders of US President Donald Trump as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate.
Trump said American forces were targeting Iran’s military capabilities linked to the Strait of Hormuz. He claimed the strikes were aimed at stopping threats to one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes.
“We are attacking their capabilities connected to the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump told reporters at the White House.
The US president also said that diplomatic options with Tehran remain possible despite the growing military confrontation.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key global energy route, with a large share of international oil shipments passing through the narrow waterway. Any disruption in the region could affect global energy supplies and increase concerns among international markets.
