Pakistan has moved to secure additional liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies on an emergency basis after recent attacks and rising tensions around the Strait of Hormuz disrupted energy shipments.

The government has issued a tender for the purchase of one LNG cargo, which is expected to be delivered on July 15 and 16. The move comes as authorities attempt to prevent any shortage of gas supplies and maintain stability in the country’s energy sector.

According to reports, the deadline for companies to submit bids for the LNG cargo has been set for Friday. The tender is aimed at arranging an immediate alternative supply after a scheduled LNG shipment from Qatar for July was cancelled.

The cancellation of the Qatari cargo created concerns over Pakistan’s short-term gas availability, especially as the country relies heavily on imported LNG to meet energy demands for power generation, industries, and domestic consumers.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy routes, through which a significant portion of global oil and gas shipments passes. Any disruption in the region can create challenges for countries dependent on energy imports.

Pakistan’s latest move reflects efforts to manage potential supply risks caused by the ongoing regional tensions. Officials are working to ensure uninterrupted gas availability and reduce the impact of international market disruptions on the country’s energy system.
