According to Pakistan Railways officials in Islamabad the department has begun delivering diesel to Pakistan State Oil (PSO) depots through rail freight services.

The first freight train carrying approximately 750,000 liters of diesel departed from Rawalpindi and has reached the Peshawar region officials said.

A second freight train carrying around 1 million liters of diesel from Mahmood Kot is scheduled to reach the Peshawar region tonight according to Pakistan Railways.

Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi has directed the department’s administration to continue diesel transportation on a daily basis to maintain a consistent supply.

Pakistan Railways said timely delivery of diesel will help ensure the continuity of passenger train services and prevent disruptions caused by fuel shortages.

The move is intended to strengthen the railway’s fuel supply chain by using rail freight for the transportation of diesel to key locations. Regular deliveries are expected to support railway operations and help maintain passenger services.

The development comes as Pakistan Railways continues efforts to ensure that its trains have adequate fuel supplies for regular operations. The use of freight trains for diesel transportation is expected to facilitate the movement of larger quantities of fuel to regional railway facilities.

Officials said the daily transportation plan will continue according to operational requirements while further consignments will be transported to ensure adequate diesel availability.

The latest initiative highlights the role of Pakistan’s railway network not only in passenger and cargo transportation but also in supporting the logistical requirements of its own operations.
