Pakistan will go to any extent to defend Saudi Arabia: DG ISPR

Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said Pakistan will go to any extent to defend Saudi Arabia, reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to the kingdom’s security.

In an interview with an Arab television channel, the DG ISPR said Pakistan stood firmly with Saudi Arabia and was present there to help protect the two holy mosques.

He said Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security was unconditional. He described the relationship between the people, armed forces and political leadership of the two countries as a historic and enduring bond.

“Pakistan will continue to defend Saudi Arabia and will go to any extent for its defence,” he said.

Chaudhry also spoke about the possible response if any member of the Makkah Defence Agreement came under attack. He said the mechanism for implementing defence commitments was not disclosed publicly.

He explained that if any of the three countries faced an attack, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye would jointly determine the appropriate course of action. The response would then be implemented according to the decision agreed upon by the three parties.

The DG ISPR said the Makkah Defence Agreement was defensive in nature and aimed at promoting regional stability and peace. He added that there were several other defence agreements in which participating countries had given assurances of mutual support.

Responding to questions about how the agreement would be implemented in the event of an attack, Chaudhry said details concerning military operations and security matters remained confidential.

He stressed that any decision regarding a response would be taken collectively by the three countries. He also said there were no objections to the Makkah Defence Agreement, as its stated purpose was to strengthen defence cooperation and contribute to regional peace and stability.
