ISTANBUL: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has paid tribute to Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, expressing Pakistan’s condolences and reaffirming solidarity with the Iranian people during their national mourning.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, the prime minister said he attended the condolence gathering and funeral ceremonies for the late Iranian leader on behalf of the Government and people of Pakistan. He conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the government and people of Iran, describing the occasion as a moment of profound grief.

Shehbaz Sharif said Ayatollah Khamenei’s wisdom, leadership, and lasting influence on Iran and the wider region would be remembered for generations.

The prime minister said he was accompanied by a high-level Pakistani delegation, including Asim Munir, Ishaq Dar, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, senior parliamentarians, federal ministers, and other government officials.

He emphasized that Pakistan stands firmly with its neighboring and brotherly nation during this difficult period and reiterated Islamabad’s support for the people of Iran.

Following his visit to Iran, the prime minister travelled to Istanbul at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to continue his official engagements.
