ISLAMABAD, October 1, 2026: The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) has clarified that the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) 2026, held on September 20, was conducted by universities designated by provincial and regional governments, rather than by the Council itself.

According to the PM&DC, the universities responsible for conducting the examination also carried the legal responsibility to ensure transparency, fairness and the integrity of the admission test throughout the process.

The University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore conducted the MDCAT for candidates in Punjab, while Sukkur IBA University handled the examination in Sindh. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Khyber Medical University, Peshawar conducted the test, while Bolan University of Medical & Health Sciences, Quetta was responsible for Balochistan.

Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU), Islamabad conducted the MDCAT for candidates from Islamabad Capital Territory, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The Council further clarified that the universities managed all major operational aspects of the examination. These responsibilities included preparing and setting the question paper, printing and securely storing examination papers, transporting the papers to examination centres, preparing answer keys, compiling results and officially declaring the MDCAT-2026 results.

The PM&DC said it does not have a direct role in conducting the MDCAT under the existing legal framework. Therefore, candidates who have concerns, complaints or grievances regarding the examination should contact the university that conducted their test.

The concerned university will examine such complaints and take any appropriate remedial action in accordance with the law and applicable examination procedures.

The clarification comes amid concerns and queries from MDCAT candidates regarding the responsibility for different stages of the examination process. The PM&DC’s statement seeks to distinguish the Council’s regulatory role from the responsibilities assigned to the universities that conducted the test.
