The Power Division has directed electricity distribution companies and the Pakistan Information Technology Company (PITC) to expedite the processing of pending net-metering applications, particularly those where consumers had completed the required formalities before the government’s February 9, 2026 cutoff date.

The directive aims to ensure that consumers who had already fulfilled the necessary requirements are not subjected to unnecessary delays in obtaining approval for their net-metering connections.

Under the review process, authorities will examine cases in which consumers had paid their demand notices before February 9, 2026, and subsequently completed other mandatory requirements. These include obtaining the required net-metering licence, replacing or reprogramming electricity meters and completing the relevant meter connection orders.

The Power Division has instructed PITC to conduct a detailed review of the pending cases and coordinate with distribution companies to determine which applications meet the eligibility criteria.

PITC will also be responsible for updating its billing systems and software to facilitate the inclusion of eligible net-metering connections. The move is intended to prevent technically complete cases from remaining pending merely because the relevant information has not yet been incorporated into the billing system.

At the same time, electricity distribution companies have been asked to verify payment records, application details and other supporting documents. The verification process will help authorities distinguish genuine pending cases from applications that may still have outstanding requirements.

The review will cover eligible cases handled by the country’s distribution companies as well as K-Electric.

Officials have emphasized that the exercise is aimed at resolving legitimate cases in which consumers had completed the required process before the February 9 deadline. However, applications that do not meet the prescribed conditions will remain subject to the applicable rules and verification procedures.

The latest instructions are expected to provide relief to consumers who had already invested in solar systems and completed the required net-metering formalities but were still awaiting their connections to be reflected in the relevant billing systems.

The Power Division’s directive also highlights the government’s effort to streamline the administrative process surrounding distributed solar generation while ensuring that only properly verified and eligible connections are brought into the system.
