President Asif Ali Zardari departed from Lahore for Germany on Thursday for a three-day visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, boosting trade and expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.
The visit, scheduled for October 22 to 24, comes as Pakistan and Germany mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.
According to the Foreign Office, the visit is part of ongoing high-level exchanges between the two countries. It reflects their shared commitment to deepening cooperation and building a stronger partnership.
During his stay, President Zardari is expected to meet German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, senior government officials and business leaders. Discussions will focus on economic ties, trade opportunities and ways to expand cooperation between the two countries.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah is also expected to accompany the president. His possible participation was discussed during a meeting with German Consul General Thomas E. Schultze.
Pakistan and Germany have maintained diplomatic engagement on regional and international issues. In September, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
During that meeting, Germany appreciated Pakistan’s mediation efforts in regional conflicts, particularly concerning the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab. Both sides also expressed support for renewed negotiations aimed at achieving peace in Ukraine.
Economic cooperation has also remained a key area of engagement. In June, a German delegation announced plans to bring around 30 German companies to Pakistan and help connect Pakistani businesses with European markets.
President Zardari’s visit is expected to provide an opportunity to advance these initiatives and explore new avenues for trade, investment and bilateral cooperation.
