Photographs of Princess Charlotte travelling on London’s Elizabeth Line with her mother, Catherine, Princess of Wales, have prompted criticism on social media, with some users raising concerns about the young royal’s privacy and safety.
Charlotte and Catherine were seen travelling on the line before getting off at Tottenham Court Road station, according to reports published on Monday.
Some social media users criticised the sharing of images from the private outing. One commenter appealed to a royal commentator named Paula to remove a post, saying the Waleses were protective of their children’s safety and warning that the images could expose Charlotte to online abuse.
“Sorry Paula, I like you but you should not be showing this,” another commenter wrote.
Other users speculated about the reason for the journey. One suggested it might have been intended to demonstrate that public transport could be used safely, while noting that passengers sometimes encounter unpredictable behaviour on the London Underground. The comment was speculation, not a confirmed explanation for the outing.
An account of the journey published by The Mirror US quoted a passenger who said Catherine and Charlotte spoke briefly with people sitting opposite them.
The passenger said the pair were accompanied by security personnel who kept a low profile. Catherine held Charlotte’s hand as they left the train at Tottenham Court Road, the account said.
The passenger also described the mother and daughter as relaxed, saying they smiled and chatted during the brief interaction.
The images and online reactions have fuelled a debate over the publication of photographs of royal children during private outings. However, the social media comments cited in the reports do not establish that Charlotte was in danger or that the outing was unsafe.
