LAHORE:  The Punjab Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has expressed deep grief over the death of a polio programme worker who lost her life in a road accident in Lahore on September 22, 2026.

Punjab EOC Coordinator Khalid Parvaiz extended heartfelt condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased worker, describing her death as a painful loss for the polio programme and the wider public health workforce.

According to information available so far, the polio worker was on her way home after completing her official polio vaccination duty when the motorcycle she was travelling on with family members was involved in a road accident near the Ring Road in the Lake City Commercial Area.

The incident resulted in her death, while further details concerning the circumstances of the accident are expected to become available after the relevant authorities complete their assessment.

Khalid Parvaiz said the deceased had been associated with the polio eradication programme for more than 10 years and was regarded as an experienced and dedicated member of the workforce. She had been performing her duties in Lahore’s Allama Iqbal Zone for several years and had contributed to efforts aimed at protecting children from the potentially disabling disease.

Expressing his sorrow over the incident, the Punjab EOC coordinator said the loss of a worker who had devoted more than a decade to serving children and families was deeply distressing for the entire polio programme.

“The loss of a dedicated polio worker who served children and families for many years is deeply painful for the entire polio programme. Punjab EOC extends its heartfelt condolences to her family and colleagues,” Parvaiz said.

The Punjab EOC said it was maintaining contact with the affected family and providing all possible assistance during the difficult period following the tragedy.

The death has also highlighted the risks faced by frontline workers who travel through different areas while carrying out vaccination and public health responsibilities. Polio workers across the country regularly participate in vaccination activities to reach children and families in communities and help prevent the spread of poliovirus.

Officials said the deceased worker had remained committed to her responsibilities for many years and had played a role in supporting vaccination efforts in her assigned area of Lahore.

The Punjab Emergency Operations Centre reiterated its solidarity with the bereaved family and colleagues of the deceased and said that all possible support would continue to be provided.

Officials maintained that the information currently available remains subject to verification and that additional details would be shared if required after the relevant authorities complete their review of the incident.
