Quaid-e-Azam Trust UK honours outstanding overseas Pakistanis in Birmingham

The Quaid-e-Azam Trust UK organised a Certificate of Appreciation and Medal Awards ceremony in Birmingham to recognise overseas Pakistanis

BIRMINGHAM: The Quaid-e-Azam Trust UK organised a Certificate of Appreciation and Medal Awards ceremony in Birmingham to recognise overseas Pakistanis for their valuable contributions to the community and their achievements across different fields.

The ceremony was organised as part of the celebrations marking Pakistan Day and the country’s independence on August 14, 1947. The event was presided over by the City Lord Mayor, while Senator Lt Gen Abdul Qayyum (Retd.), Patron-in-Chief of the Quaid-e-Azam Trust UK, attended the ceremony as the chief guest.

The event was hosted by Raja Muhammad Ishtiaq, Chairman of the Quaid-e-Azam Trust UK, who praised the award recipients for their services and described them as examples for the wider Pakistani community.

He said the contributions of overseas Pakistanis reflected the Trust’s vision of promoting unity, following the principles of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and remaining committed to serving the community.

The ceremony brought together community members and distinguished Pakistanis from different parts of the United Kingdom. A total of 20 individuals were recognised with certificates and medals for their achievements and services in business, media, education, healthcare, law, community development and philanthropy.

The award recipients included Dr Amer Nawaz, Medical Advisor; Wajid Minhas, Regional Director (Asia & Africa) at the University of Gloucestershire; Mohammed Yousuf, Detective Chief Inspector and member of the Pak Pakhtun Association; and Raja Nasir Mehmood, President of the Pakistan Press Club.

Other recipients included Abid Khan, Chair for Institute of Directors British Asian Businesses; Dr M. Nasrullah, an educationist and scholar; Raja Kamram Shehzad, an international climate and nature strategist; Malik Imtiaz Awan, Chief Executive of Euro Halal Foods; Ch M. Adil Zeb, Director of Alamgeer Foods Ltd; and Ch. M. Rasib Pehlwan, Chairman of Birmingham Kabaddi Club.

Amran Ellahi, who works in community and youth engagement and is the founder of Aashiq Al Rasul, was also honoured. Other awardees included Raja Mohammed Zafran, West Midlands Chairman of Crime Stoppers; Fahim Kayani, President of Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK; and M. Ayyub MBE for his contribution to the promotion of Pakistani music.

Barrister M. Ahmed, former Senior Crown Prosecutor; Mohammed Hanif, Senior Executive Officer at His Majesty’s Inspector; Iftikhar Ahmed Jugnoo, TV anchor and poetry writer; M. Sajad Younis, a local government finance specialist and author; Zulfiqar Ali, President of Aiwan-e-Na’at International UK; and Ch. Mahmood Fareed, a military business entrepreneur, were also among those recognised.

Addressing the gathering, Senator Lt Gen Abdul Qayyum praised the awardees for maintaining Pakistani values while contributing positively to British society. He said members of the Pakistani diaspora were playing an important role in strengthening relations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.

The Lord Mayor also appreciated the Pakistani community’s role in Birmingham’s social and economic development and acknowledged the contributions made by community leaders across different sectors.

Raja Muhammad Ishtiaq reiterated that the Quaid-e-Azam Trust UK would continue supporting and recognising talented individuals whose efforts benefit society and strengthen the Pakistani diaspora.

The ceremony concluded with a message emphasising that service to the community is service to humanity, while highlighting the values of unity, respect, integrity, service and excellence.
