Railway budget increased for salaries and allowances

Islamabad: The federal government has proposed allocating Rs. 70.4781 billion for the Railway Division in the budget for fiscal year 2026–27 which is Rs. 20.319 million more than the allocation for the previous fiscal year.

According to the budget documents, Rs. 70.457832 billion had been allocated for the Railway Division during fiscal year 2025–26. For the upcoming fiscal year, the government has proposed Rs. 138.3 million for the salaries of railway employees while Rs. 232.9 million has been recommended for various employee allowances.

The budget documents further state that Rs. 68.5 million has been proposed for railway operating expenses while Rs. 110.4 million has been allocated for the payment of retirement benefits to railway employees.

Similarly, Rs. 70 billion has been recommended for grants, subsidies and loans to Pakistan Railways representing the largest share of the overall railway budget.

According to the documents, Rs. 508,000 has been proposed for railway physical assets while Rs. 17.9 million has been allocated for repair and maintenance expenses.

The budget also recommends Rs. 88 million for the salaries of railway officers and Rs. 50.3 million for the salaries of other staff members. In addition, the budget includes a proposal to increase the allocation for regular allowances to Rs. 215.2 million.
