Rawalpindi woman found dead at home, Husband among two arrested

A married woman was found dead at her home in the Habib Lane area of Rawalpindi, with police launching an investigation and arresting her husband and another suspect in connection with the case.

RAWALPINDI: A married woman was found dead at her home in the Habib Lane area of Rawalpindi, with police launching an investigation and arresting her husband and another suspect in connection with the case.

According to police, the woman identified as Sundas was found hanging inside a room at her residence in the jurisdiction of Sadar Bairuni Police Station. Her brother, Muhammad Ibrahim, filed a case alleging that she had been murdered.

The FIR names Sundas’s husband, Tanveer Ahmed, his sister Fiza and Abdul Aziz in connection with the incident.

According to the FIR Sundas had been married to Tanveer Ahmed for around two years and the couple had a child. The complaint alleges that the woman had repeatedly complained about being subjected to mental distress and pressure.

The FIR further states that Sundas contacted her mother on the night of the incident and told her that she was facing serious problems from her in-laws.

Later that night, at around 10:30pm the family reportedly contacted Sundas’s home. Her husband’s sister, Fiza, allegedly answered the phone and informed them that Sundas had died by suicide.

When her family arrived at the house, however, they alleged that she had been murdered. The complaint states that Sundas had henna on her hands and that there were signs indicating that she had been strangled.

Police said the woman’s body was recovered from a room in the house. Her husband and cousin have been arrested in connection with the case.

A post-mortem examination has been conducted while forensic samples have also been collected as part of the investigation.

Police said all aspects of the incident are being investigated and further action will be taken in accordance with the findings.

The arrests and allegations do not by themselves establish guilt. The investigation and forensic evidence will determine the circumstances surrounding Sundas’s death.
