Director Saife Hassan has revealed an interesting behind-the-scenes story about Aap Ki Izzat, sharing how writer Umera Ahmed remained firm when he suggested changes to the drama’s title and story.
The HUM TV drama, written by Umera Ahmed and directed by Saife Hassan, has quickly attracted significant attention for its emotionally layered storyline and complex characters. Starring Ahsan Khan and Urwa Hocane in the lead roles, the drama explores marriage, respect, emotional neglect and the impact of changing circumstances on relationships.
Speaking about the making of the drama, Saife recalled visiting Umera Ahmed’s home in Lahore along with producer Nina Kashif. The meeting reportedly lasted around seven to eight hours as the team discussed the script and possible changes to the project.
Saife revealed that he had several suggestions for modifying the story. However, Umera did not agree with many of them. According to the director, she rejected more than half of his proposed changes because she already had a clear vision for the story she wanted to tell.
One of Saife’s suggestions was particularly interesting: he wanted to change the title Aap Ki Izzat. He apparently felt that another title could work better for the drama. Umera, however, stood by her original choice and refused to change it.
Her decision ultimately proved significant. As the drama progressed, viewers began connecting strongly with the title and the ideas surrounding dignity, respect and relationships that form the heart of the story. Saife acknowledged that Umera’s confidence in her own writing had been justified.
The director also credited the writer for protecting the core of the project. Rather than reshaping the story according to every suggestion, Umera insisted that the team understand and present her original vision on screen.
Aap Ki Izzat centres on Tabish and Beena, a married couple whose relationship changes dramatically as their circumstances evolve. Tabish’s growing wealth and changing priorities create emotional distance between the couple, while Beena struggles with the loss of the affection and respect that once defined their marriage. The drama has been praised for presenting marital conflict through emotional and social themes rather than relying only on conventional twists.
Saife Hassan’s revelation offers viewers a new appreciation for Umera Ahmed’s approach to storytelling. Her refusal to compromise on the title and key elements of the plot demonstrates the importance she places on maintaining the original purpose of her work.
With Aap Ki Izzat continuing to generate discussion among viewers, the behind-the-scenes story has made the drama even more intriguing. What began as a project in which the director wanted several changes ultimately became a showcase of what can happen when a writer firmly believes in her story—and stays true to it.
