Sindh health DG seeks to step down days after appointment

Sindh Director General Health Services Shehryar Memon has submitted a request to be relieved of his post, just days after being appointed to the position.

According to reports, Memon submitted his request to the Sindh Services Secretary, seeking to be relieved of his responsibilities as director general.

Memon said that remarks of a personal nature had caused him mental distress and emotional trauma. He maintained that he had secured the position through merit and hard work rather than as a personal favour.

He said continuing in the current position was inappropriate in order to protect the dignity of the office as well as his own personal dignity.

Copies of the request were also sent to the Sindh Health Secretary and the Personal Secretary to the Health Minister, according to the report.

Memon was appointed as the Director General Health Services Sindh on September 21. His request to step down comes only a few days after assuming the key health department position.

The development has drawn attention as Memon has sought to leave the post shortly after his appointment, citing personal remarks and concerns about the dignity and reputation of the office.
