Sindh to roll out Pink Scooties in Mirpurkhas on Sept 5

The Sindh government is set to distribute Pink Scooties to women in Mirpurkhas on September 5 as part of its efforts to improve mobility and promote women’s empowerment.

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the initiative on Friday while chairing a meeting of the provincial Transport Department, where officials reviewed several major public transport projects across the province.

The meeting covered the expansion of the People’s Bus Service, double-decker buses, electric vehicle (EV) taxis, Pink Scooties and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects.

Memon was briefed on the ongoing operations of the People’s Bus Service and its planned expansion to additional cities. Officials said buses had already reached Larkana and preparations were underway to launch service on the Qambar Shahdadkot-Larkana route.

The minister also reviewed arrangements for introducing double-decker buses in Sindh. Officials briefed him on the progress of the project, while the proposed operational model and launch preparations for the EV taxi service were also discussed.

Memon directed the relevant departments to ensure that arrangements for new bus routes were completed within the scheduled timeframe. He said expanding the People’s Bus Service was aimed at providing residents of different cities with safer, more reliable and accessible transportation.

Speaking about the Pink Scooties initiative, the minister described the programme as a “revolutionary step” towards empowering women. He said providing women with their own means of transport would help them travel more easily for education, employment and other essential activities.

The minister also ordered officials to accelerate work on ongoing BRT projects and called for stronger coordination between the institutions involved to prevent unnecessary delays.

According to Memon, the provincial government is pursuing a broader transport strategy focused on modern, safe and environmentally friendly mobility. The expansion of public bus services, promotion of electric transport and development of major BRT corridors, he said, form key components of Sindh’s overall transportation policy.
