South Korean actor Lee Yong-joo dies at 44

South Korean actor Lee Yong-joo has died unexpectedly at the age of 44, leaving fans and colleagues shocked by his sudden passing.

The actor’s death was confirmed on Saturday, August 29, after a close friend shared the news on social media. The friend expressed disbelief over Yong-joo’s sudden death and asked fans to remember him in their prayers.

According to reports, Lee Yong-joo died after suffering a massive heart attack. Details surrounding the circumstances of his death were not immediately available.

A funeral hall has been established at Room 5 of Bundang Jesaeng Hospital Funeral Hall, where arrangements for the actor’s final rites are being made.

The coffin viewing is scheduled for 1pm on August 30, while the funeral procession will begin at 6:30am on August 31. His remains are expected to be taken to Seongnam City Crematorium.

News of Yong-joo’s death quickly spread online, prompting an outpouring of grief from fans. Many expressed disbelief and sadness, with social media users paying tribute to the actor and recalling his performances.

Lee Yong-joo began his acting career in 2004 with the film Do-ma Ahn Jung-geun. He subsequently appeared in the 2005 MBC drama Hello, Francesca and the 2006 series Gung.

He later became associated with the tvN series The Ugly Miss Young-ae, appearing in the show between 2009 and 2014. His popularity increased further through his role as Private Lee Yong-joo in the military-themed comedy series Blue Tower, which aired from 2012 to 2014.

In 2022, he made a special appearance as Jeong Da-jeong in the ENA drama New Recruit. The project has now become his final credited acting appearance.
