Talal Choudhry warns KP CM over IHC order

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry has warned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi that he could face contempt of court proceedings if the Islamabad High Court’s orders are violated.

Chaudhry said negotiations, reconciliation and political aspirations were separate matters from what he described as an “NRO-2”.

He said the government had never withdrawn from the dialogue process and that both the prime minister’s committee and the National Assembly speaker’s office remained available for talks. However, he maintained that the government could not offer an NRO.

Chaudhry alleged that the KP chief minister was trying to protect his position rather than working for the PTI founder. He warned that if the Islamabad High Court’s directives were violated, Sohail Afridi would be the first person to face contempt of court proceedings.

The minister also announced that he would hold a press conference on Thursday regarding the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Act.

He accused the KP government of attempting, through what he termed an unusual piece of legislation, to bring the provincial police under excessive political control.

Chaudhry’s remarks come amid continuing political tensions between the federal government and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administration, with legal and political issues adding to the ongoing dispute.
