Islamabad, June 11, 2026: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has called for a large-scale, multilingual public awareness campaign on climate change, saying the message must be taken to every segment of society through diverse communication platforms.
Speaking at the International Conference on Green Journalism, Media, Climate and Social Responsibility jointly organized by The Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology and OIC COMSTECH in Islamabad, he stressed that climate communication should be made more inclusive, accessible, and culturally diverse.
The minister highlighted that Pakistan contributes less than one percent to global carbon emissions, yet remains among the countries most severely affected by climate-induced disasters. He emphasized that this imbalance underscores the need for global climate justice, arguing that nations with higher emissions bear greater responsibility in addressing the crisis.
He said climate change is no longer just an environmental issue but a social and cultural challenge that demands mainstream attention. According to him, awareness efforts must be strengthened so that environmental issues receive the same visibility on social media and public discourse as viral entertainment content.
Tarar called for a coordinated national strategy involving multiple ministries, government departments, and stakeholders to ensure effective climate education and actionable solutions at the grassroots level. He further stressed that public engagement in local languages would help bridge communication gaps and improve understanding of environmental risks.
